About the Event
Precision medicine involves tailoring treatment to fit a person's genes, proteins, and other factors in the body.
Biomarker testing in an integral part of precision medicine which allows you and your doctor to make informed treatment decisions, sparing the effects of ineffective treatments. We will learn about the biology behind biomarker testing, when to ask for it, and how this important information can impact treatment.
Our guest speaker is Aileen Fernandez from Cariss.
Aileen I Fernandez, PhD, MS is a Molecular Science Liaison for Caris Life Sciences. She was a postdoctoral fellow at Yale School of Medicine where she focused on identifying and developing biomarkers to better identify which persons with cancer will respond to targeted therapies, improving patient care. Aileen completed her PhD in the Tumor Biology training program at Georgetown University (GU) in 2019 where she focused on triple negative breast cancer.
Amongst multiple initiatives she co-founded the Yale Black Postdoctoral Association, Yale Postdoctoral Association's Racial Justice Committee, and the Georgetown Women and Science and Education.
Aileen is passionate about leveling accessibility in science and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
